How It Works

How Our Prostate Cancer Surgery Works

Prostate cancer surgery requires precision and expertise to effectively remove cancer while preserving function. At Valiant Clinic, our specialists utilize advanced techniques to ensure optimal patient outcomes, focusing on safety, recovery, and long-term health.

Pre-Surgical Consultation

A comprehensive assessment, including PSA tests, MRI scans, and biopsies, helps determine the cancer stage and the most suitable surgical approach. Our specialists provide a detailed treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs.

Surgical Procedure

Depending on the diagnosis, we perform radical prostatectomy using open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted techniques to remove the prostate gland while minimizing damage to surrounding nerves and tissues.

Nerve-Sparing Techniques

For eligible patients, advanced nerve-sparing procedures help preserve urinary control and sexual function, improving quality of life after surgery. Our specialists prioritize precision to reduce post-surgical side effects.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Whenever possible, we use robotic-assisted and laparoscopic methods to enhance precision, reduce blood loss, minimize post-operative pain, and accelerate the healing process.

Post-Surgical Monitoring

Regular follow-ups, PSA testing, and imaging ensure proper recovery, monitor for recurrence, and provide ongoing support to optimize long-term health and well-being.

Are you suited for prostate cancer surgery?

Who is Prostate Cancer Surgery Recommended For?

Recommended for
Localized Prostate Cancer

Surgery is recommended for patients whose cancer is confined to the prostate gland. A radical prostatectomy effectively removes the cancer while aiming to preserve urinary and sexual function whenever possible.

Recommended for
Aggressive or High-Risk Prostate Cancer

For patients diagnosed with fast-growing or high-risk prostate cancer, surgery may be necessary to prevent the disease from spreading. In some cases, it is combined with radiation or hormone therapy for optimal results.

Recommended for
Recurrent Prostate Cancer

If prostate cancer returns after initial treatment, surgery may be an option to remove remaining cancerous tissue. This approach helps prevent further spread and improves long-term health outcomes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Prostate Cancer Surgery FAQ’s

Prostate cancer surgery involves the removal of the prostate gland to eliminate cancerous cells. This is a common treatment for localized prostate cancer.

The need for surgery depends on factors such as cancer stage, overall health, and patient preferences. Consulting with a urologist will help determine if surgery is the appropriate treatment.

  • Radical Prostatectomy: Complete removal of the prostate gland, performed through open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted methods.
  • Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP): Removes part of the prostate tissue, primarily to relieve urinary symptoms; not typically a curative treatment for cancer.

Recovery varies based on the surgical approach:

  • Hospital Stay: 1 to 4 days.
  • Catheterization: A urinary catheter is usually needed for 1 to 2 weeks post-surgery.
  • Return to Normal Activities: Light activities can resume in a few weeks; full recovery may take several weeks to a few months.

Risks include infection, bleeding, and blood clots. Common side effects are urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, which may improve over time or with treatment.

Some patients experience urinary incontinence post-surgery, ranging from mild leakage to loss of bladder control. Pelvic floor exercises and, in some cases, additional treatments can aid recovery.

Erectile dysfunction is a possible side effect due to nerve damage during surgery. Nerve-sparing techniques aim to preserve erectile function, but outcomes depend on factors like age, pre-surgery sexual health, and cancer extent.
