How It Works
How Our Kidney Stone Removal Surgeries Works
Kidney stones can cause intense pain and disrupt daily life. At Valiant Clinic, we use advanced, minimally invasive techniques to remove stones safely and prevent recurrence. Our expert urology team ensures effective treatment with a focus on patient comfort, fast recovery, and long-term kidney health.
Comprehensive Diagnosis and Planning
Not all kidney stones are the same. We perform detailed imaging, urine tests, and metabolic evaluations to determine the size, location, and composition of the stone. This allows us to select the most effective removal method while minimizing risks and discomfort.
Tailored Treatment Options
Depending on the stone’s size and complexity, we offer several treatment options, including extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break stones into small fragments, ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy for precise stone removal, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for larger or more complex stones.
Minimally Invasive Techniques
Whenever possible, we use non-surgical or keyhole procedures to minimize pain, reduce recovery time, and lower the risk of complications. Our laser and ultrasound technologies effectively break down stones with minimal impact on surrounding tissues.
Fast Recovery and Pain Management
Most patients experience relief quickly, with shorter hospital stays and faster return to daily activities. We provide personalized pain management plans, hydration strategies, and dietary recommendations to ensure smooth recovery and prevent new stone formation.
Preventing Future Kidney Stones
Beyond treatment, we focus on prevention. Our specialists offer tailored advice on diet, hydration, and lifestyle modifications to reduce the risk of recurrence, ensuring long-term kidney health and overall well-being.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Kidney Stone Surgery FAQ’s
What are kidney stone removal surgeries?
Kidney stone removal surgeries are medical procedures designed to eliminate stones from the urinary tract when they cannot pass naturally. These surgeries aim to relieve pain, prevent infections, and avert kidney damage.
When is surgery necessary for kidney stones?
Surgery is typically required when stones are too large to pass on their own, cause severe pain, obstruct urine flow, lead to infections, or damage kidney function. If conservative treatments fail, surgical intervention becomes necessary.
What are the different surgical options?
Several surgical methods are available:
- Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL): Uses external shock waves to break stones into smaller fragments that can be passed naturally.
- Ureteroscopy: Involves inserting a thin scope through the urethra to reach and remove or fragment stones using laser energy.
- Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL): A minimally invasive surgery where a small incision is made in the back to remove large or irregularly shaped stones directly from the kidney.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery time varies by procedure:
- SWL: Most patients resume normal activities within a few days.
- Ureteroscopy: Recovery typically spans a few days to a week.
- PCNL: Due to its more invasive nature, full recovery may take up to two weeks.
Are there any risks with kidney stone surgery?
All surgical procedures carry potential risks, including bleeding, infection, and injury to surrounding tissues. Specific complications depend on the chosen method and individual patient factors. Discussing these risks with a healthcare provider is essential.
Will kidney stones return after surgery?
While surgery removes existing stones, it doesn't prevent new ones from forming. Without addressing underlying causes, there's a possibility of recurrence. Implementing preventive measures is crucial to reduce this risk.
What can I do to prevent kidney stones?
Preventive strategies include:
- Hydration: Drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, to dilute urine and prevent stone formation.
- Dietary Adjustments: Reducing intake of salt, animal proteins, and foods high in oxalates; increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables.
- Medications: In some cases, medications may be prescribed to prevent specific types of stones.
