How It Works
How Our Bladder Cancer Surgery Works
Bladder cancer treatment requires precision, expertise, and advanced surgical techniques. At Valiant Clinic, our specialists provide a comprehensive approach, from diagnosis to post-surgical recovery, ensuring the best possible outcomes while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
Pre-Surgical Consultation
A thorough assessment, including advanced imaging, urine tests, and cystoscopy, helps determine the stage and spread of bladder cancer. Our specialists discuss treatment options and develop a personalized surgical plan tailored to each patient’s needs.
Surgical Procedure
Based on the severity of the condition, we perform transurethral resection (TURBT) for early-stage tumors, partial cystectomy for localized cancer, or radical cystectomy for advanced cases. Each procedure is carried out with precision to remove cancer while minimizing complications.
Reconstruction and Recovery
For patients requiring full bladder removal, we offer advanced urinary diversion techniques such as neobladder reconstruction or ileal conduit diversion. These options help restore urinary function and improve post-surgical quality of life.
Minimally Invasive Techniques
Where suitable, robotic-assisted or laparoscopic surgery is used to enhance surgical precision, reduce blood loss, minimize pain, and accelerate the recovery process for better post-operative outcomes.
Post-Surgical Monitoring
Comprehensive follow-up care includes routine imaging, cystoscopies, and medical check-ups to track recovery, prevent recurrence, and provide ongoing guidance for bladder health and overall well-being.

Are you suited for bladder cancer surgery?
Who is Bladder Cancer Surgery Recommended For?
Early-Stage Bladder Cancer
For patients with non-invasive tumors, surgery such as transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) is recommended to remove cancerous tissue while preserving bladder function. Early intervention increases the chances of successful treatment and reduces recurrence risks.
Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer
When cancer has spread into the bladder wall, more advanced surgery, such as a partial or radical cystectomy, is often necessary. Removing the affected area or the entire bladder helps prevent further spread and improves long-term survival.
Recurrent Bladder Cancer
For patients experiencing a return of bladder cancer after initial treatment, surgical intervention can help remove new tumor growths and prevent progression. Ongoing monitoring and follow-up care are essential for maintaining bladder health.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Bladder Cancer Surgery FAQs
What is bladder cancer surgery?
A surgical procedure to remove cancerous tissue from the bladder. Depending on the stage, this may involve removing tumors, part of the bladder, or the entire bladder.
How do I know if surgery is right for me?
Your doctor will determine if surgery is necessary based on the stage of cancer, your overall health, and other treatment options available.
What types of bladder cancer surgeries are available?
- TURBT (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor): A minimally invasive procedure to remove tumors from the bladder lining using a scope.
- Partial Cystectomy: Removal of a portion of the bladder while preserving its function.
- Radical Cystectomy: Complete removal of the bladder, often including nearby lymph nodes and, in some cases, reproductive organs
How long is the recovery after bladder cancer surgery?
- TURBT: Most patients recover in a few days to a week.
- Partial/Radical Cystectomy: Hospital stay of 1–2 weeks, with full recovery taking several weeks to months.
What risks and side effects should I expect?
Potential risks include infection, bleeding, blood clots, and changes in urinary function. Radical cystectomy may also affect bowel or sexual function.
Will I need a urinary diversion after surgery?
If the entire bladder is removed, urine must be redirected:
- Ileal Conduit: Uses part of the intestine to create a passage for urine to exit into an external bag.
- Continent Urinary Diversion: An internal pouch is created, requiring periodic drainage via a catheter.
- Neobladder: A new bladder is constructed from intestinal tissue, allowing for urination in a natural way.
Can bladder cancer return after surgery?
Yes, especially if only part of the bladder is removed. Regular follow-up with cystoscopy and imaging is essential for early detection.
