Ashleigh is an internationally recognized physiotherapist and lecturer with experience working with team Great Britain in the Beijing, London, Sochi and Rio Olympic Games. She uses instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization techniques as part of her treatment of patients (both elite and non-elite athletes), and has trained therapists in this technique across the world, including at the English Institute of Sport.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization involves the use of a rigid tool (such as Graston or i-assist) to improve hands on skills by magnifying sensation of touch, detecting involved areas of the kinetic chain more efficiently, reaching areas of increased depth, whilst importantly conserving the therapist's own joints. Instruments work to detect and amplify the feel of soft tissue restrictions to the hands similar to the way in which a stethoscope amplifies the sound of a heartbeat.
The course involves two days of in depth study of the range of techniques used in IASTM in a small group (maximum 14 attendees) with hands on input from Ashleigh. There will be discussion of cases and time to practice extensively under supervision leaving the practitioner confident to apply the learnt techniques on their patient population after leaving the course. Ashleigh is an advocate of continued learning and there is the opportunity after the course to submit a case study as well as ongoing email and text support for course attendees to address any questions arising as practitioners apply their new skills.
This course is suitable for physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists and sports medicine physicians who wish to expand their range of hands on skills.
